Welcome to Hamill Guiding

Come and explore an angler’s paradise in Rotorua, New Zealand. Hamill Guiding specialises in fly fishing for Trout

New Zealand fly fishing guide John Hamill invites you to come fly fishing in an anglers paradise around Rotorua. Hamill Guiding specialises in fly fishing adventures for trout in the central North Island's world renound Lakes, Rivers and Streams. Returning anglers are continually drawn back by large trout, beautiful scenery and friendly people - giving credence to the fact that New Zealand lives up to it's reputation as an international fly fishing destination.

Sight fishing for wild rainbow and cunning brown trout best describes the nature of our style of river and stream fly fishing. The crystal clear waters, the stealthy stalk up the river and to spot your fish first before tempting it with a dry fly or nymph is heart in the mouth exciting and rewarding and is what fly fishing in New Zealand is famous for. Sighting and casting to these wild trout will leave snapshots in your mind for the rest of your life.

The central North Island region is dotted with streams and rivers and most are within just a half hour drive of Rotorua City and Taupo. The best river fishing is accessed by helicopter and heli fishing gets you to least pressured waters amongst beautiful native vegetation - making a spectacular backdrop to hook up on the fish of your life. Let us tailor a single day or a multi day fly fishing trip and adventure in the waters of the central North Island. Te Urewera and Kaimanawa National Park's can give you a spectacular setting to a fly fishing holiday trip of a lifetime!

The regions lakes also provide some great oportunities and none is better than the margins of Lake Rotorua during the summer months. Rotorua trout fishing has the famous Ngongotaha and Waiteti streams and the Awahou and Hamurana springs that flow into this shallow lake give the fish cool oxygenated water in the summer months to hang out in and it is during this time that a morning or evening fishing trip can leave a smile on your face to enjoy brunch or an evening aperatif and reflect on your fishing. The Ngongotaha is probably the most heaverly fished trout stream and is always worth a wander anytime in its open season, 1st December to the 30th June, many a surprising rainbow and brown trout comes out of this small stream.

News Flash: Rotorua Airport to be Trans-Tasman to Sydney.

Air New Zealand is to launch direct air services between Rotorua and Sydney, Australia. The service will launch on 12 December, with a flight from Sydney to Rotorua utilising a 152-seat A320 aircraft. The airline will operate a twice weekly service from 19 December 2009 on Saturdays and Mondays until the end of January, after which they will operate on Saturdays and Tuesdays. The new flights will position Rotorua as the gateway to the Central North Island and also provide residents from Tauranga, Taupo, Whakatane, Hawke’s Bay and other areas across the region with a more convenient and competitive trans-Tasman service. The new services will also make Rotorua significantly more accessible for all visitors who often visit both Australia and New Zealand and whom we can now bring directly from Sydney to Rotorua instead of via the more congested Auckland airport. There are some great introductory fares that may tempt you to come fishing here! We will back this up with some great fishing and for the first to contact us we will give you a bonus of a discount of our normal rates as well so contact us to see what you can save.
